I'll keep what I have today fast and simple.
Whatever happened tonight out there at AT&T park, while it was disappointing, I'm rather satisfied. Did we win? No. Did we make any comebacks? No. It was quiet game, mostly a pitchers duel, and this time, our pitcher is not at fault for pretty much anything.
Barry Zito has been receiving ZERO support from our offense.
Come on guys, what the hell?
Barry Zito allowed one damn hit throughout the 5 1/2 innings he pitched. The scoring run was on a big fat error. A Big, did I say, BIG error by short stop Juan Uribe. Of course, this makes it an unearned run, but Zito's still stuck with that loss and our standings just don't look as pretty as they did two nights ago.
Reed Johnson would be the one to come home. Furcal goes to 3rd and Ethier to 2nd.The Dodgers had just one hit in that game, by center fielder Kemp, but he was put away quite neatly when he was caught by Giants catcher Buster Posey stealing second.
Kershaw did a good job with keeping our bats quiet, but it seems as if every pitcher our team faces when Zito is pitching keeps our bats quiet. There is no support. For awhile, there was no doubt that Barry Zito was struggling, but looking at his last start against the Arizona Diamondbacks, he seemed to be alright after a slow start. He didn't throw a perfect game tonight, but allowing JUST one hit, he only wishes he could do more. Technically speaking he could have done more, but in this situation there should be no complaining from the outside about his pitching. He can beat himself up about it, fine, but fans should be the last people complaining about the pitching duel tonight.
Our offense seems to have left their rally attitude behind. The Giants put 4 men on base tonight. Juan Uribe, Freddy Sanchez twice, and Cody Ross once. With Andres Torres out, outfielder Cody Ross is currently serving as our lead off man. Ross was standing in scoring position when Freddy came up to bat. Despite him being red hot, he didn't manage to conjure up a hit when we needed it most to tie the game. We did not seem in the mood for late comebacks tonight, and we didn't seem in the mood to score either. well FUCK the mood.
My two cents after todays game, we couldn't cough it up to beat the Dodgers. We couldn't come back from a 1 run deficit, maybe we're having a tough night, but what's that say about the team? Everytime we get so close to division, or everytime we get close to wild card we feel all settled in. Settled in to what?!
We never have division or wild card for very long.
I know that we can get either, but whether we can keep it is the question?
The Red Sox game was not neat tonight either, but I wish, I just wish the Giants would remember to fight like they do. Dice-K pitched tonight against the Mariners and we found ourselves in a winning, losing, winning, losing, winning situation. A couple of home runs when we needed them, a couple of base hits the get the rally going. Varitek back in the line up (Tek, I missed you.)
We haven't quite won yet, 7-5 Red Sox at this very moment with Tek on first base at 10:01 PM Pacific Time.
Rally or no rally, the Red Sox have shown that they can fight.
Can the Giants?
